This is a movie starring James Stewart and the beautiful Grace Kelly, and directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
It is a movie of visual perspective as much of the world as become, more so, via satellite; as in this flic, in a negative point of view with eventual consequences.
Stewart portrays a professional photographer, (LB Jeffries) who is laid up with a broken leg, and confined to a wheelchair, due to an accident at one of his shoots.
Bored and intrigued while re cooperating, he passes his time spying on his neighbors from the rear window of his courtyard apartment.
Because of the summer heatwave, the tenants keep their windows open and shades drawn up to stay cool.
With his telephoto lens he gets a bird's eye view of the private dramas of his neighbors across the courtyard
and brazenly into the world of voyeurism.
So obsessed is he, that he involves his girlfriend Liza, (Grace Kelly) and his visiting nurse to be his accomplices in his secret watches of others.
From his 'portable keyhole' he sees a dancer he nicknames, "Miss Torso; a lonely woman he calls, "Miss Lonely Heart", a songwriter, and several married couples, a sculptor, and his "most interesting", a wholesale jewelry man, Thorwald, with a bedridden wife.
OoooKay-- trying make a long story short: Jeff sees that Thorwald & his wife get into an argument and then before long, Thorwald makes late night trips with his sample suitcases, and a huge crate. Later sees Thorwald cleaning a large butcher knife and realizing the wife is gone!
"Murder most foul????" ;}
Well that's Jeff's theory and finally his "accomplices," the girlfriend, and visiting "nursie,
nurse" come to believe Jeff's suspicions of Thorwald.
Their female intuition tells them: "Why would a woman leave all her jewelry behind, especially her wedding ring if she just went out of town for awhile???"
And so, being the women that they are, they promote themselves from voyeurs to FBI and, get even closer; too close as Liza is caught by Thorwald when she's inside his apartment.
She climbed through his open window to try and retrieve the wife's wedding band.
Thorwald gets rough with her, almost violent. Jeff & the "nursie, nurse" start to panic as they can see all this transpire through the rear window.
They call the police. The police get there just in time. They ask Thorwald what is going on. He tells them that the woman had broken into his apartment. They question her, and she does "sort of" admit to it. Nevertheless the police arrest her which is to her advantage, saving her "pretty little neck."
Well eventually, Jeff's Detective buddy and police believe him and "yes" Thorwald did murder his wife. He admits to his gruesome act as he "cut her up in pieces" and scattered her body parts throughout the city.
The point I want to make or started to in the beginning was, that we have become a nation of "voyeurism." We are captivated, even motivated in viewing the lives, and drama of one another. And how? By surrealism, television and other medias.
It's as though we cannot get enough of this morbid curiosity of watching others play out their lives on all these "ridiculous" shows.
Let's see.. to name a few: The Honey Boo-boo show. True Life, Dance Academy, Hillbilly blood, Cheaters, Real House wives Of Atlanta, DUI??? And not to mention Courtroom TV, and so many, many more.
I suppose that is the way we as a people have always been. I am reminded of the movie "Gladiator" and how these warriors would fight in the great Colosseum to the death;blood, guts, heads rolling.
All in the name of BIG $$$$$$$ for entertainment, AND lets not forget, for, "BIG BUSINESS."
People. We're dancing with the Devil here and eventually the dollars take the form of blood & souls.
In the "Gladiator" Russell Crowes character "Maximus" yells to the grisly, blood thirsty crowd:
"ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED??!!
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED??!!
IS THIS NOT WHY YOU ARE HERE??"
I fear this is what we have come to as a nation. Voyeurism. In it's ugliest form of entertainment & amusement.
And our "Rear Window", Our Colosseum? IS IN OUR HOMES, in its most distasteful form.
As for Jerry Springer????? He is the worst kind of abomination there is on this planet. Constantly luring people to his bottomless pit of human disgrace and humiliation. "AND"............ WE FOLLOW HIM LIKE PIGS TO THE SLAUGHTER.
The Devil & his demons are getting their feeds aren't they??? We have come down to lie in the darkness of oozing rot and decay.
I happen to agree with author Felix J. Palma in his novel, "the Map of Time." Our tragic demise will be through technology.
"Love thy neighbor?" Yeah, whatever. The Devil is making sure of that.
And one last quote from "Rear Window." Grace Kelly's character, Liza says she doesn't know anything about rear window ethics, but this "MORBID CURIOSITY????" Yeah, I agree.
Of course this is just my bird's eye view, if you will. Babylon, Sodom & Gomorrah, metaphorically speaking. But-- if you Believe the signs are "written on the wall....." and unfortunately on the ground stained with blood.
We ARE sinking literally and not just in our social mores but the planet is "actually" giving way. More and more we hear of holes in the earth swallowing us up.
Believe me when I say to you I am "No holy roller, nor bible beater, screaming, Brimstone & Fire," rhetorically speaking, BUT-------here's something to ponder. Read>>>>>>>>>>>>REVELATION 18.
However you interpret this, literary or figuratively. We're no different.
I close now with these quotes, something more to ponder:
"Ha!!! Spaniard. We shall go to Rome together and have bloody adventures and the great
whore will suckle us until we are fat and happy and can suckle no more."
From the movie, ~GLADIATOR.
Whose having bloody adventures now???? Whose the whore now??? Need I speak? Albeit I will quote this:
"I" say, "Nothing is so beautiful as Spring. But "I" think, it will be Summer.....

...of The World.
And so it goes.
